Have a read of this interesting article in the link below) about the fate of the Holy Thorn at Glastonbury- in fact there are several locations of 'Holy Thorns' as these are reputed to be trees that grew from cuttings of the original as planted by Joseph of Aramatheia some 2000 years ago, when he thrust his staff into the ground at Wearyall Hill near Glastonbury Tor.
Interestingly, the first 'Glastonbury Thorn' was cut down during the English Civil War as it was viewed as an object of superstition - these were very nervous times for many reasons!
I also mentioned in our podcast Episode 3 that the Holy Thorn at Glastonbury Abbey was vandalised and destroyed. This was a mistake, it still remains, but in a fragile state. The Holy Thorn at Wearyall Hill sadly no longer exists. Thanks to one of our listeners for pointing this out to us!
